Celestia's Malediction by Sanity-X Celestia's Malediction by Sanity-X
A little response to [link]

I've got nothing against the picture or JJ (who is mucho awesome, btw), but somehow the way it was presented to me really ground my gears. Drew this up real quick just to let off some steam.

By the way, I'm having some trouble pinning a name to this monstrosity. I'm using 'Dreadmare' atm, but I feel I've been overusing the 'mare' pun a little too much recently. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. ^_^

has anyone ever suggested that quadruped bodies might be far more stable and thus effective for heavy weapon platforms...?

I cant help but get that feeling especially concerning a dreadnought... or rather "dreadmare" as you put it...

huh... and that also seems to suggest that females would make much more wise fighters than most males by virtue of their more often calm over a males' fury... thuse females, especially mares, would seem more likely to actyually be a hero over a warrior, acting out of compassion than glory like so many space marines (not space mares) do... but maybe I'm missing something...

like if they act out of conquest over enlightened unity... unless this is a "take everything before the enemy can" situation of "there is only war"...

I would argue that your perception of motivation being based on gender sounds pretty sexist. Not all men fight just because they're gunhappy dudebros who wanna kill stuff, and not all women fight because they're benevolent angels of protection and helpyness. People can find many different reasons to take up arms, some more noble than others, and I would say that both male and female soldiers in 40k primarily for the reason of "There is only War" that you just mentioned.

As for quadrupedic chassis designs being more stable and more efficient heavy weapon platforms, you'd be right on the money. Square Cube Law tells us that for any increase in and object's size, it's volume will multiply by the 3rd power ([en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Square-c… I'd rather not explain square cube law right now, as it is 3AM right now for me and I would probably fuck it up. The link is in the brackets), which would mean the bigger the object, the more space it will take up, and therefore more mass. This means that doubling an object's size does not double it's weight, but rather increases it by... a lot more than just doubling it.

This makes for some really massive increases in mass the bigger an object gets, and massive constructions require strong structural supports to keep  them from crushing themselves with their own weight.

A common object to be gigantified is the mecha (giant robots) like the one you see here, and the bigger they are, the more supports they will need to stay upright. Since a bipedal robot means two supports. Two supports might barely be enough for a dreadnought, but not so much for a gundam, and DEFINITELY not for EVAs, and all would be improved in handling and feasibleness with more legs. If you were to construct an actual giant robot, it would probably resemble something like a giant spider, because the bigger it gets, the more legs it needs.

Thank you for the technical input- this makes me smile

What does not is the fog of dirt that follows the WH40k like atmosphere everywhere

I asked not because of gender polarization

I have simply seen repeated proof that no one no matter thier reasons is worthy of salvation because they can't even do the right thing even when things are going well- all they do is perpetuate the inferno to which they all will deserve to die by = ponitless

I wanted to believe there was a purpose beyond "there is only war" I wanted to believe that anyone here had foresight beyond how to kill everything and live only for the kill- because that is the culture - a rightfully dead end one at that

There has to be a higher purpose not based in superstitions like the "glory of God" or assumptions that just because you might defend the public that you are noble and beyond question

Or that authority and power alone makes you special and more important than those who do not have it

Wrong is wrong no matter how you justify it-

Is have more respect if there was insight and ownership along the lines of "it was wrong, but I couldn't do any better- I live my penance and repentance"

But space marines are virtually not like this- everything about them is woven in brutality and spocopathy even their sense of honor- they don't know how to love or build and they don't try to anyway

So widen that along the spectrum of everyone who ever fights in this forsaken universe and you have every species able to fight only deserving of thier own oblivion which will never come soon enough - mares stations filles and everything else that might menace them

That is how utterly pointless it is without a clean aspiration and a clean vision on how to actualize it cleanly otherwise it's just a project waiting to fail and built on the rot of who knows how many that didn't have to die a wasted death

But space marines don't care- God / The Emporor/ Celestia is "on thier side and makes things all better"

A diseased life form that can't kill itself fast enough

That is the futility I aimed to seek a way around

Which rings ominously parallel to mlp season 3 finale onward ... Unless if you believe power is a form of godly holiness no matter what or who you use to get it and that it makes those that hold it beyond question of legitimacy

"Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be re-learned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods."

From page 1, GW makes it abundantly clear what kind of setting 40k takes place in. 40k is always gonna be a dangerous and brutal setting because that danger and brutality is what makes the game so fun and appealing to a lot of fans. If anyone stopped fighting in 40k, then 40k wouldn't be as fun anymore. A lot changes in the time between now and the grim dark future of 40k. If what you're looking for is an era of wisdom and peace, you came to the wrong franchise.

And yet it hasn't brought about its own pointless end to its pointless wars.

that's the problem- if this is damnation incarnate why hasn't the apocalypse finally happened to wipe every garbage species from existence?

even in this "grim darkness" three is plenty to learn if anyone gave a damn about actually mattering

but they don't- so why are all the little pigs not all dead yet- war ruins everything- the galaxy can only sustain this for so long and 10,000 years of it should have made a difference to everyone's self made extinction.

sure- things suck. but there can be a bounce back from it- this hasn't happened. when there is no bounce back the alternative is annihilation.

if there is a point beyond psychopathy, it makes all this effort and tech mean something. without it, its all pointless.

some species are just brutes given form- others can rise above- but they don't- they can but they are too proud to- so they all deserve annihilation. so where is it?

even the chaos god's aren't infinite when the physical realm has had all it can - even they have limits.

Why on holy terra would GW write an end to 40k!? If the 40k wars ended, then they wouldn't be able to make new models.

yeah... i guess that's the root of it all right there

might as well include "forget about any inclining of story- the point is neo-Gothic tech, all kinds of diversity, and strategy war games- there is only war games."

Ever since Ponibooru went down, it's nigh impossible to find it again. >_<

It was a picture by John Joseco, which had a Eldee- erm... Eldar Pony, slicing a Space Mareine.

In true Imperial fashion, I devised an appropriate Imperial response. ^_^

Very nice idea and execution, as always with your work. Keep up the good work.
One question, though. How are the hindlegs connected to the main body? I've got an unassembled ironclad, a bunch of dreadnought legs and a hankering for some convertion work. Already got some ideas on the tail and the forehooves.

Thanks!

As to how it's connected, I'd reckon it should be connected at the hip, which should give it sufficient flexibility. Some work must be done however to make that area look solid enough to support the hip to the rear.

I actually drew up a sketch to explore the idea, but my colleague needed the paper I drew it on for... something or other. Teaches me not to sketch on 'scrap' paper lying around, I guess. ^_^

Right, will do. Even though that means that I'll have to put in a good bit more effort than usual. Better go and grab some more bits of the local GW before the conversion fever hits.

Also, I forgot to put forward my two cents when it comes to the name of the machine: Trojan. A vaguely horse-shaped construct, containing other beings and crafted singularily for war. Quite pretentious, but, hey, it's 40k. Though I might be putting entirely too much thought into this. -.-

You can never put too much thought into this, for this is Ponyhammer 40k, not some flimsy whim. Thanks for the suggestion, mate~ :ahoy:
